Look at all the Hits I am getting

Knowing the answer already, I responded, "Then why are you calling me?"

"We are getting nothing from the site ... nothing"

A client told me today, "Look at all the hits we are getting."

Knowing the answer already, I responded, "Then why are you calling me?"

"We are getting nothing from the site ... nothing"

Ahhh .... I guess in this case, it is not an issue of hits but a matter of results.

Without mentioning names, this potential client was being served by a large telephone company selling hits as Internet Marketing. Like most, they were selling potential and not results. Apparently, the results were the clients issue. In this case I'm no so sure the clients understood that.

In a moral sense, I believe marketing and advertising should carry a certain amount of feedback for a reasonable chance for success. Stated another way; The company taking the money was not concerned about the clients success, only in the payment they received. "Look at the hits you are getting" was the end of their responsibility, now pay up.

Now ... To me this is the tip of a very large ice berg conversation that leads in many directions.

Just some of those directions:

How nice would it be if your marketing and advertising investment allowed you to:

  • Decide if the investment was working
  • Gave feed back how to improve success for the investment
  • Do you even expect "result analysis" from _any_ forms of advertising? Or are you buying "potential"?
  • Is your site even getting hits?
  • How do you know you are getting hits? Is someone telling you or is someone showing you?
  • Is your site ready for hits? (Hint: in this case, the answer was a big fat very obvious "NO".)
  • WHY was this client not getting any results from "all these hits"?
  • Are YOU ready for results from hits? Can your respond to an increased demand for information, et al, from an increased client base? Does it do any good to go to the trouble and expense to get people knocking at your door if you are not ready to open the door?

Whats next?
