Changing our Marketing Thinking
The other day, I walked into a local business; I knew the owners so I stopped in to say hello. During the ensuing conversation, they found out about Fire Up and what we do around here. The owners became somewhat agitated and accused me of being "one of those" making them go out of business.
- I wonder if they stopped to shed a tear for Kodak film sales when digital cameras started their take over of the camera market.
- Did Kodak they go out of business? No. Why? They adapted to the changing needs of the market and adjusted their product line. They adapted.
- If the local business goes out of business, which they won't, it will be caused by their thinking. They see the building demand, but are not, as of now, adapting to it.
The Baby Boomers, who the modern concept of Marketing grew up with, are being replaced with a younger market. The truth is, people are on the Internet more than reading newspapers.
So if you grew up with conventional marketing, our advice to you is to adapt to where your future markets are migrating. It's technology might scare you, but it's full of opportunity if you adapt to it.
